Commendations for Essex’s brave lifesavers
OFFICERS from across Essex have been recognised for their bravery and dedication – including saving lives, helping people in serious emotional distress and preventing harm to others.
Picture (from left to right) are Sgt Robert Horne, PC Uyan Kupeli, PC Miccy Turton, Deputy Chief Constable Matt Horne, DC Emma Henderson, PC Adam Dooley and PC Jon Hounslow.
DC Henderson was commended for her role in securing the conviction of a dangerous sexual predator.
During the investigation that led to his arrest, DC Henderson worked around the clock to gather vital evidence and supported the victim through every stage of the process to secure six charges for sexual assault.
PC Turton received a commendation for her decisive action and professionalism while saving the life of a woman who required urgent assistance.
The officer attended a multi-storey car park in March 2015 after a concerning report of a woman threatening to take her own life. After engaging the woman in conversation, she was able to calm the situation and bring her to safety.
Retired police constable Simon Corker received a commendation for his bravery while protecting the public from a potentially dangerous man.
In August 2015, Mr Corker was shopping in a busy high street when he spotted a man armed with a large knife and aerosol can, threatening members of the public.
After reporting the incident to our Force Control room, he gave officers a running commentary until they arrived on scene. As a result of his actions, the man was prevented from causing any injuries to passers-by.
Sgt Horne, PC Hounslow and PC Kupeli were commended for performing life-saving first aid on a man who had been seriously assaulted in Epping.
The officers, based at Loughton Police Station, were driving through the high street when they spotted the man who had collapsed and was bleeding profusely.
Acting quickly, the officers applied pressure on the wounds and radioed for an ambulance. They maintained the pressure to the man’s wounds and continued to administer vital first aid until paramedics arrived.
Paramedics praised the actions of all three officers and said that without their prompt actions, the man would not have made it to hospital.
Deputy Chief Constable Matt Horne praised all of the officers receiving an award. He said: “Today is an opportunity to reflect on what our officers do every day and recognise their fantastic contributions whilst serving the people of Essex. It is equally important to pay tribute to family members who have loved ones in the force and say thank you for the sacrifices they make on a daily basis.”
