Officers take on Colchester footballers in charity match

ESSEX Police and Colchester United FC Veterans played a charity football match this month to raise money and awareness for two cancer charities.

In homage to Noah Edgar, son of Pc Rob Edgar from Colchester, officers kitted up to play the professionals in front of a crowd of 400 at Stanway Rovers Football Club. The final score was 4-1 to Colchester United Veterans.

Chief Superintendent Ewen Wilson presented the winners with a trophy and thanked the teams and supporters for their efforts in raising money for a great cause.

The game took place to raise money for two charities which supported Noah, who was diagnosed with a rare cancer called retinoblastoma in 2015. Since the diagnosis, sadly, Noah has lost his eye and now has a false one.

Noah has recently returned from America where he received much-needed treatment. The Edgars have received a great deal of support from the two charities, Wipe Away Those Tears and Childhood Eye Cancer Trust. The officers played with an aim to raise enough money to pay back the charities.

Officers from the Dog Section gave a display during half time.

The football match was organised by PCSO Matt Ladkin from Tendring.
