Chairman: “We are worth every penny of a 2.8% pay rise”
POLICE officers deserve every penny of the 2.8% pay rise requested for them, the Chairman of Essex Police Federation has said.
Steve Taylor noted that while those in the private sector are averaging more than 2% pay rises then police officers deserve as much. “I think we’re worth every percentile of that increase,” said Steve.
The Police Federation of England and Wales and the Superintendents’ Association have once again asked for a pay increase of 2.8% for all police officers.
The Government have capped public sector pay increases at 1% but the two staff associations said that Police Remuneration Review Body (PRRB) “must be free to draw their own conclusions based on the evidence presented.”
Steve said: “I think we’re worth every percentile of that increase and I think the amount of work that goes in to preparing that solution is well documented, it’s well evidenced. The reasons for us only receiving a one percent pay rise after that submission would clearly be politically motivated.
“The case is made out for us to receive that increase on a factual basis, and so the political will of those in positions of power is the only thing that’s preventing them from authorising it.”
“The request for a 2.8% pay rise is not plucked out of the sky, it’s evidenced and it’s researched and it’s documented. This is what we are worth, and it’s not unreasonable for us to ask to be paid that amount.”
