Federation finances: Where your monthly money goes

HAVE you ever wondered what happens to your Federation subscriptions? Where your monthly £21.50 goes?

EssexFedFocus continues its weekly series, put together by chairman Mark Smith, outlining the make-up of the Federation, both locally and nationally.

We conclude this week looking at Federation finances.

Your monthly federation subscriptions are collected locally and 70% of that money is sent to PFEW headquarters in Leatherhead. 30% is held locally by the Essex Federation.

Once at Leatherhead the money is divided again.

The CCC (Constables) receives 70% of the subscriptions collected from constables of which they pass on 91.75% of that 70% to the national treasurer.

The SCC (Sergeants) receives 70% of the subscriptions collected from sergeants of which they pass on 89% of that 70% to the national treasurer.

The ICC (Inspectors) receives 70% or the subscriptions collected from Inspectors of which they pass on 82.75% of that 70% to the national treasurer.

About £10 million (75%) of the federation’s budget is allocated to legal services. This includes representation to cover criminal injury compensation claims, civil matters, gross misconduct and performance matters, defamation, employment tribunals, regulation related disputes, inquests and judicial reviews.

The federation also provide comprehensive training for all Federation representatives on matters covering misconduct, performance and grievance procedures, health and safety, equality and diversity and dealing with the media.
