Promotion of Inspectors is good for all officers in force
THE promotion of 28 Essex Police Sergeants to Inspectors is good news for all rank and file officers in the force, the Chairman of Essex Police Federation has said.
Steve Taylor said the fact 28 officers have gone up a rank – seen here celebrating with Chief Constable Steve Kavanagh – means that a number of PCs and Sergeants will also be able to see their promotion prospects increased.
Steve said: “In these trying times of trying to make less go further, perhaps occasionally it’s not seen on appreciated by those within policing, but the Inspectors shoulder quite a lot of pressure to get the job done.
“They’re an important link between the operational and the strategic, if you like, and seeing more Inspectors qualify and take up positions can only be a good thing.
“If 28 of those Inspectors take up positions in 28 teams across the force, well it’s not hard to think that there’s 28 additional Sergeants there that are freeing up the spaces of 28 Constables that means 28 across our county have that extra person. So even from that point of view, for 28 at least, that’s positive.”
Steve was also pleased to see the Chief Constable give our colleagues some recognition.
He concluded: Taylor: “A little goes a long way in that regard, and a little pay on the back, a little thank you, from those at the very top, is multiplied the further down it goes. It does mean something, it’s good to see our Chief Constable talking about the pride he has in us and our new colleagues taking up those new leadership positions.”
