Call for officers to help bust Essex Police red tape

ESSEX Police officers can help reduce red tape by taking it upon themselves to tell the management about the problems they encounter.

The force has a “busted red tape” email address where officers can report the bureaucracy that makes their job harder and suggest ways of streamlining processes. Steve Taylor, Federation Chairman, said: “The email address is for all those ideas people might have, regardless how big or small.”

Steve added: “It is important for members to make use of this, because the responsibility for making best use of what we have doesn’t rest solely with the management. If we have what we think is a really good idea about how we could do something better, how we could make a change, then professionally I want to encourage us all to bring that forward and bring it to the attention of the organisation.”

He said that while officers could raise issues with a supervisor, by using the email address ideas will go straight to the team responsible for coordinating change. Also, those that contribute will get a reply as to why their idea can or cannot be implemented.

He added: “There is always more red tape that we can get rid of. For every great idea and for every initiative or incentive we bring in, invariably admin comes with it.”

The email address can be found on the Federation’s internal force web page.
