Essex appoints new Temporary Deputy Chief Constable

COMMANDER BJ Harrington will join Essex Police as its new Temporary Deputy Chief Constable.

He will be replacing Deputy Chief Constable Matthew Horne who joins the National Crime Agency as Deputy Director, initially on secondment.

Mr Harrington is currently with the Met and will join Essex Police on in April or early May.

Steve Taylor, Chairman of Essex Police Federation, said: “We would like to say goodbye to Mr Horne and wish him well on his secondment with the NCA.

“We would also like to welcome Mr Harrington and we look forward to an honest, constructive, critical friend relationship that we had with Mr Horne, actually hoping to build on that. Which, hopefully, will be to the benefit of both the organisation and the membership.”

Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh said: “BJ Harrington is an outstanding operational leader who has worked on some of London’s biggest public order challenges, such as large-scale demonstrations and major public occasions.

“During his interview, BJ demonstrated his commitment to the values of Essex Police and, as importantly, to keeping our county’s communities safe. He will bring to Essex a wealth of experience and operational knowledge and I look forward to working with him.”
