Essex PCs waded into sea to save drowning woman

TWO Essex Police officers have been praised for their life-saving actions after they waded into the sea off Clacton Pier to save a woman from drowning.

PC Chris Allwood and PC Rob Cubberley were called to the beach at around 3.30pm on 31 March following reports of a woman in distress. The officers began their search at opposite ends of the beach and quickly located the woman.

PC Allwood said: “When we spotted the woman, she was up to her knees in water and sliding into the sea.”

Without a thought for his own safety, PC Allwood waded into the water, while PC Rob Cubberley assisted with a lifebuoy.

The officers brought the woman back to shore where she was rushed to hospital and given urgent medical treatment.

PC Allwood Said “We acted as any other police officers would have in the same situation. I want to thank the Clacton Beach Patrol Team who provided blankets and assistance to help keep the woman warm and reassure her following the incident.”

Acting Inspector Andy Robinson said: “Both officers acted courageously and did not hesitate to enter the water to bring the woman to safety. Their quick-thinking and prompt action prevented what could have been a more serious incident.”
