Christmas Message from Essex Police Federation Chairman
AS CHRISTMAS approaches and 2017 draws to a close, I would like to thank all our members for their hard work throughout the year, and pay tribute to their bravery and commitment.
I would like to honour all those courageous police officers who never knew what to expect when they went into a new situation, but did it anyway, not least Sgt Rich Burgess, Essex’s regional Bravery Award winner who saved a man’s life when he intervened during an attack while on holiday in Jerusalem.
And to those who continue to go into the unknown, despite being aware of the dangers, I would like to ask them to stay safe. To look one another – as you always do.
We say goodbye to an old friend in Phil Suarez, our Secretary, whose sterling work has left us in a really strong position for the future. In his place we welcome Paul Squire who takes over the reins in the new year.
With the advent of 2018, we also welcome 66 keen probationers into the ranks. It will be good to see that vim and vigour in January, and remember, we were all there once.
There will be challenges next year – for us it will be Essex taking its place in some of the national debates around pay and conditions, around ‘Protecting the Protectors’ and looking after our officers, and driving through necessary change ahead – and for you in doing a dangerous job in difficult circumstances. But please remember that when you need help, know that we at the Federation are here for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
