Commendations for quick thinking Essex officers

TWO Essex police officers and a Communications Officer with the force have been praised for their teamwork which helped a woman who was suffering a suspected stroke.

A welfare call came into the force earlier this month prompting fears that a woman needed police and paramedic assistance.

Communications Officer Lyn Newins, who also volunteers as a Special Constable, managed to identify the woman’s identity despite her not being able to divulge much information during the call.

Having carried out several name and address searches on the system, Lyn was able to despatch officers to the scene.

PCs Dave Read and Jon Gould found a boy at the address, but he was unaware of his mum’s situation, so the officers had to search the property to find her.

Once they had done so they administered first aid and flagged down an ambulance who picked up the care of the woman and called in an air ambulance.

Essex Police District Commander for Brentwood and Epping, Chief Inspector Lewis Basford, praised the teamwork of all involved.

“Without the work of our contact handlers and the timely intervention of our officers, the woman’s situation would have been a lot worse.

They all went above and beyond to help someone in need in our community.

“I wish her a speedy recovery.”
