Essex officers thanked for administering life saving CPR

TWO Essex Police officers have been thanked for giving life-saving CPR to a member of the public who fell unwell at the wheel.

PC Simon Bailey and Sgt Dave Goodchild were on duty in Basildon when they were called to reports of a collapsed driver nearby.

As they arrived, the officers found paramedics attempting to resuscitate an elderly man who’s car had stopped in an unusual place, giving concerned members of the public cause to call the emergency services.

The officers both performed life-saving CPR whilst the paramedics prepared to give him medication.

He was taken to hospital by the ambulance which was escorted by the officers allowing them to get there swiftly.

Since the incident, PC Bailey has checked on the welfare of the man who is now recovering at home. He has spoken to the family who thanked the officers for their help and support.

Pc Simon Bailey from Basildon Local Policing Team said: “There’s a misconception that we only deal with crime but a big part of our job is to help people.

“We’re glad the driver is recovering well and wish him all the best with his health.”
