Essex officers go State Side to raise money for children suffering from cancer
SEVEN Essex Police officers have been busy in New York taking on a range of challenges in order to raise money for children suffering with cancer.
Sgt Lucy Bearman, Sgt John Reynolds, DC Dean Baston, DC Richard Clark, PC Georgia Pryor, PC Richard Stott and SC Ryan Hennessey gave up their own holiday time and paid for their own way to travel across the Atlantic to take part in the fundraising activities.
The officers successfully ran a half marathon, battling 24˚C heat dressed in full kit from the waist up, on May 18, before taking part in a team event to pull a jumbo jet across the John F Kennedy Airport tarmac on May 21.
The team were competing against a range of other law enforcement and military personnel to pull the jet in the fastest time to raise as much money as possible.
The officers were taking part in order to raise money for JACK (Joining Against Cancer in Kids) as part of Jack’s PACK (Police Against Cancer in Kids), a charity that was set up in memory of 7-year-old Jack Brown.
The money raised will specifically help children who are suffering from the childhood cancer Neuroblastoma.
Sgt Lucy Bearman said she was “so proud” of Jack’s PACK and thanked the New York Police Department for their support whilst the Essex crew frequented in the Big Apple.
“It was such an honour to stand next to our New York blue family and the families of those that have died in the line of duty”, she added.
There is still time to sponsor the officers, which you can do by visiting: http://J-A-C-K.org
