Essex Police appoint new Deputy Chief Constable

ESSEX Police has appointed Pippa Mills to the role of Deputy Chief Constable and Federation Chairman Steve Taylor says he is looking forward to working with her.

He says the role will be challenging, but that she has the Federation’s ‘every confidence’.

Her stated desire to build a good working relationship with the IOPC and tackle the length of time investigations can take will put her in good stead, Steve added.

“As the lead for discipline matters, we work very closely with the deputy’s office and what has been encouraging during her process to being promoted, we were involved in the stakeholder panels and we got to put questions to our new deputy chief constable, were her plans to cultivate a relationship with the IOPC.

“She said she is acutely aware of timeliness of investigations and that they are a concern.”

He believes DCC Mills will also bring a fresh and vibrant approach to the role.

“Her appointment reflects the vibrant, energetic command team that we have here in Essex and it’s all positive.”
