Essex Police Federation welcome changes to police conduct regulations

ESSEX Police Federation is supporting changes to police conduct regulations which will see a shift from blaming to learning.

Complaints against officers will be treated as learning opportunities wherever relevant in an attempt to end the blame and punishment culture in policing.

The new ‘reflective practice’ guidelines, which have been continuously postponed take effect in February next year.

Essex Police Federation Chairman Steve Taylor said; “This is part of an ongoing body of work to move away from blame and towards learning and the new regulations that have been postponed, and postponed again, are almost about to land, and we welcome them.

“We will have to sit down and understand the practical implications, but in theory we are supportive of a change to the legislations that support learning and understand over catching and punishing.”
