COVID-19 will not stop Essex Police Federation from remembering fallen colleagues.<\/p>\n
Essex Federation Chair Laura Heggie said it was hugely important the National Police Memorial Day still went ahead this year despite the restrictions the pandemic has imposed.<\/p>\n
One of the most significant events in the police calendar will now take place online at 3pm on 27 September.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is really, really important we mark National Police Memorial Day still,\u201d Laura said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it\u2019s so important we pay our respects to our fallen colleagues. We were contacted in the office recently about the Memorial Challenge Coin that\u2019s being produced… We said instantly that Essex Federation would be purchasing them to give them out to the families of the fallen officers here in Essex, especially because we can\u2019t mark the day by being there in person this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
National Police Memorial Day is all about remembering officers who made the ultimate sacrifice and is a way to show the police family still support their loved ones left behind.<\/p>\n
Laura added: \u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity for families to come together. I\u2019ve spoken to families that have attended before, and they can\u2019t speak highly enough of the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course, they miss and remember their lost family members every single day, but the National Police Memorial Day is another way for all of us to remember how and what they gave.\u201d<\/p>\n
