\u201cA TOTALLY dedicated officer and larger than life character\u201d is how a Hampshire Constabulary officer who died on duty has been remembered by colleagues.<\/p>\n
A funeral took place on 22 April for PC Steve Rawson, 40, who was riding an unmarked police motorcycle when he was in collision with a silver BMW outside a petrol station on April 3.<\/p>\n
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.<\/p>\n
Chief Constable Andy Marsh, said: \u201cPC Rawson was a totally dedicated officer and larger than life character who always made a positive contribution to his team and to the force.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are supporting his wife and family and our thoughts are with them at this devastating time. He will be missed by all who knew him.\u201d<\/p>\n
John Apter, chairman of Hampshire Police Federation said: \u201cThe loss of our colleague has shocked and saddened us all. Hampshire Police Federation will offer whatever support is required for the officers family and colleagues during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n
PC Steve Rawson joined the force as a police staff controller in March, 1996 and worked at the Force Control Room, Netley, until 2003. He joined the police as a PC in March 2003.<\/p>\n
Det Supt Dick Pearson, head of the Hampshire Major Investigation Team, said: \u201cHe was a well respected, larger than life character who was dedicated to his job. He will be deeply missed by his all who knew him.\u201d<\/p>\n
The driver of the BMW, a 35-year-old man sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
A donation fund has been set up for PC Rawson\u2019s family. Mr Apter added: \u201cSteve leaves behind a wife and two small children, aged 4 years and 7 months. Any donations collected will go to the family.\u201d<\/p>\n
