\"\"<\/a>A SERVICE for fallen Essex Police officer PC Ian Dibell took place at his memorial on Clacton seafront today to mark 10 years since the officer’s death.<\/div>\n

The service was attended by family, friends and former colleagues.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
PC Ian Dibell, of Essex Police, was killed on duty on this day in 2012. Ian was off duty when he was killed protecting the people of Essex from a gunman. He was posthumously awarded The George Medal.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As part of the service today, Ch Supt Claire Talbot and Chief Constable BJ Harrington both spoke of the sacrifice Ian made while carrying out his duties, and a prayer was read by the force Chaplin Pauline Bailey.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
CC Harrington held the salute in front of the memorial, marking the start of a minute’s silence which was recognised across the county.<\/div>\n

Essex Police Federation Chair Laura Heggie said: “I remember that day like it was yesterday, I can’t believe it was ten years ago.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThere was a sense of disbelief that fell across the Force as to how this could have happened to one of our own, compounded with the confusion of how has this happened when Ian was off duty at home?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cIt was an honour to attend the memorial service today to pay my respects with Ian’s family, friends and colleagues.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cIt’s a day that brings it home of the real risks that officers face every day and how quickly everything can change.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cPolicing isn’t just a job it’s a commitment that we all make, on and off duty in the knowledge that there are many sacrifices we have to make. Ian made the ultimate sacrifice protecting others.<\/div>\n
