POLICE officers will receive a 1% boost to their pay packets from 1 September, the Home Secretary has announced.<\/p>\n
Theresa May accepted the main recommendations of both the Police Remunerations Review Body (PRRB) and the Senior Salaries Review Body (SSRB) to give officers the award. Both the Police Federation of England and Wales and the Superintendents\u2019 Association asked for an \u201cuplift of 1% for all\u201d in their submission.<\/p>\n
In their joint submission to the Police Pay Review Body, they also asked that more \u201cappropriate adjustments\u201d are made in future years.<\/p>\n
This, the PFEW said, is \u201cto ensure officers are not left behind others when the UK economy is more buoyant.\u201d<\/p>\n
From 1 September 2015 police officers in England and Wales will receive:<\/p>\n
a 1% increase to base pay for all ranks.
\na 1% increase to the London Weighting payment.
\na 1% increase to the Dog Handlers\u2019 Allowance.<\/p>\n
Mrs May said: \u201cPolice officers play a vital role in this country, fighting crime and keeping us safe, so it is right they are rewarded.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe PRRB and the SSRB brought forward affordable proposals while balancing the need to recruit and retain the very best officers. I am grateful for their work and pleased that we are able to accept their main recommendations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Home Office said the increase is in line with the Government\u2019s policy that public sector pay awards, including the police, should average up to 1% in 2015-16.<\/p>\n
