TWO Essex PCs who saved the life of a man found face down in a ditch will receive Chief Constable’s Commendations, as well as Resuscitation Certificates from the Royal Humane Society.<\/p>\n
PC Rob Andrews and PC Deborah\u00a0Gray\u00a0will be honoured for the dedication and professionalism they showed during the incident in March.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The two officers, who are based in South\u00a0Woodham\u00a0Ferrers, were returning back to the station when a distressed member of public flagged them down on\u00a0Hawkswood\u00a0Road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
They discovered a man, later identified as Brian Hughes, from\u00a0Battlesbridge, lying face down in a ditch by the side of the road.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“Brian wasn’t breathing so there was no hanging around,” said PC Andrews. “We jumped out of the car and got straight to work.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The two officers gave Mr Hughes emergency CPR and called for another unit carrying a defibrillator to rush to the scene.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
“We administered CPR for about 15 minutes,” said PC\u00a0Gray. “Our Armed Response Unit arrived with a defibrillator and we worked together. We shocked Brian around four times before\u00a0Helimed\u00a0arrived, took over and rushed him to hospital.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Mr Hughes, who has since made a full recovery and has met PC\u00a0Gray\u00a0and PC Andrews, said he was “very, very grateful” to the two officers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
PC Andrews said the best part of the whole experience had been meeting Brian and “seeing him look so fit and healthy”.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
PC\u00a0Gray\u00a0added: “I feel incredibly proud and humbled to have even been considered for these awards, but I am just grateful that we were able to help and that Brian is back on his feet.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
