THREE daredevil\u00a0Essex Police\u00a0officers have taken part in\u00a0a skydive\u00a0to raise money for Brain Tumour\u202fResearch.<\/p>\n
PC\u00a0Rob Edgar, PC\u00a0Garry Neal and\u00a0Sgt\u00a0Paul Gooding, all based in Chelmsford, completed the sponsored tandem jump at\u00a0Beccles\u00a0Airfield in Suffolk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The skydive was to raise money for Brain Tumour Research after PC\u00a0Edgar\u2019s wife, Gemma,\u202fwas sadly diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour in October last year. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Mrs Edgar has since undergone surgery and is currently receiving radiotherapy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
This inspired Pc Edgar and his colleagues to raise money for the charity to contribute to vital research to find a cure for this type of cancer, and in support of the family\u2019s two young children. (Picture left to right are PC Garry Neal, PC Rob Edgar and Sgt Paul Gooding.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
The three officers have since smashed their target of \u00a35,000, and have since raised nearly \u00a38,500 for the charity,\u202fwhich can\u202ffund three full\u202fdays of research\u202finto the disease.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
PC\u00a0Edgar said: \u201cMy wife\u2019s diagnosis has devastated our family \u2013 not least our two young sons \u2013 and everyone who knows Gemma. She is a kind, loving, amazing person who has devoted her life to helping others, having been a children\u2019s nurse for ten years prior to her diagnosis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cShe has been so brave and takes everything in her stride, and has been an inspiration to everyone who knows her.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cShockingly, brain tumours only receive 1% of money for cancer research, despite it being the biggest cancer killer in people under 40 in the UK.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cWe are looking to raise as much money as possible to contribute to one day finding a cure for this type of cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
