THIS year\u2019s National Police Memorial Day will be held at St Paul\u2019s Cathedral in London on Sunday 25 September.<\/p>\n
The 13th annual event will remember around 4,000 officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty \u2013 and the names of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice over the past year will be read out.<\/p>\n
Sgt Joe Holness, founder of National Police Memorial Day, said the event ensures that fallen officers are never forgotten and their \u201cunique, proud legacy is forever treasured\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cThe British Police Service is renowned worldwide and its unique and priceless reputation is entirely a reflection of the professionalism of the men and women who proudly perform the role.<\/p>\n
\u201cSadly, each year police officers give their lives in order that we may all live in peace.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey place the safety of others above their own \u2013 they do so with pride and because they are the best.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event and service returns to St Paul\u2019s for the first time since the inaugural National Police Memorial Day in 2004.<\/p>\n
The 2016 service will begin at 3pm.<\/p>\n
