{"id":2901,"date":"2016-06-21T14:36:40","date_gmt":"2016-06-21T14:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=2901"},"modified":"2016-06-21T14:36:40","modified_gmt":"2016-06-21T14:36:40","slug":"force-should-focus-on-quality-of-safety-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=2901","title":{"rendered":"Force should focus on quality of safety training"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OFFICERS at Essex Police should receive more varied safety training if they are to protect themselves from attacks, the local Federation has said.<\/p>\n<p>Essex Police gives officers around six hours officer safety training a year &#8211; below the national average of 9.5 &#8211; figures from a Freedom of Information Act request have shown.<\/p>\n<p>However, hours spent on training are less important than quality, Chairman Mark Smith said.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He explained: \u201cThere are things that I would like to see a bit more in safety training. When you first join you\u2019re shown a bit of self-defence and I would like to see refreshers on that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy with the training officers are getting at the moment but I would like to see maybe some other bits added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the quality of training is more important than the quantity.\u00a0If it\u2019s six hours and it\u2019s hands on and officers are being taught with CS gas, then that\u2019s a good use of the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been pushing our Chief Constable for more Taser. I would like to see Taser rolled out more to officers to help with their protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The College of Policing sets standards for the learning, delivery and assessment of personal safety training across England and Wales based on the 2009 ACPO Guidance on Personal Safety Training.<\/p>\n<p>It gives no minimum time amounts for officers to receive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OFFICERS at Essex Police should receive more varied safety training if they are to protect themselves from attacks, the local Federation has said.
