THE Essex Police Federation is backing calls for all officers to carry Tasers for every shift they work.<\/p>\n
The armed policing lead for The National Police Chiefs\u2019 Council (NPCC) told The Guardian<\/em> that every officer, even those on routine patrol, should be allowed to carry Taser.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Simon Chesterman said officers on duty \u2018deserve the protection\u2019 Taser offers.<\/p>\n Essex Federation Chairman Steve Taylor said making Tasers part of officers\u2019 every day defence should be made a force objective.<\/p>\n \u201cIf we make it an objective then everything else can fall in around it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, there are challenges and practical issues, cost being one of them.
