{"id":4463,"date":"2018-06-21T14:39:11","date_gmt":"2018-06-21T14:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=4463"},"modified":"2018-06-21T14:39:11","modified_gmt":"2018-06-21T14:39:11","slug":"firearms-review-delay-is-an-unstable-situation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=4463","title":{"rendered":"Firearms review delay is an &#8216;unstable situation&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIREARMS officers are still not being protected by Government legislation \u2013 a \u2018potentially unstable\u2019 situation according to Essex Police Federation Chairman Steve Taylor.<\/p>\n<p>A promised review into post incident investigations appears to have put on the back-burner when it should have been completed 30 months ago.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->At the moment, firearms officers could be subject to lengthy enquiries and even IOPC investigations if they have to use their weapons in the line of duty.<\/p>\n<p>Baroness Susan Williams told the House of Lords that the Government is \u2018still looking\u2019 at the review but wants officers to \u2018feel confident\u2019 they can still do their jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an unstable situation and I wonder whether the review has even taken place let alone been written,\u201d said Steve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts not unreasonable for us to think that given we\u2019ve had nothing about it released and there\u2019s no evidence to suggest the Government are doing what they said they would do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to see it, it\u2019s taken too long already.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout the report it would only take one incident, one spark to make the world of firearms unstable and uncertain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t need that for officers who carry firearms \u2013 we need to see the review very swiftly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For more on this visit; <a href=\"http:\/\/Firearms officers are still not being protected by Government legislation \u2013 a \u2018potentially unstable\u2019 situation according to Essex Police Federation Chairman Steve Taylor.
