{"id":55,"date":"2013-02-19T12:41:40","date_gmt":"2013-02-19T12:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=55"},"modified":"2013-02-27T16:57:37","modified_gmt":"2013-02-27T16:57:37","slug":"voluntary-redundancy-introduced-for-police-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=55","title":{"rendered":"Voluntary redundancy introduced for police officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A \u201cVOLUNTARY exit package\u201d for police officers has been introduced to the service for the very first time by the Home Office.<\/p>\n<p>In exchange for agreeing to be made redundant, exiting officers below their \u201cpension age\u201d will\u00a0 receive a compensation payment of one month\u2019s salary for every year of service \u2013 up to a maximum of 21 months.<\/p>\n<p>That money would be before tax.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Chief constables and Police and Crime Commissioners from individual forces have to deem it \u201csuitable\u201d for their force and, being voluntary, the officers themselves have to go for it.<\/p>\n<p>The voluntary exit scheme is another tool being given to chief constables \u2013 in addition to the use of Regulation A19 \u2013 to help them manage their workforces. It came in after the Winsor 1 report into police officer pay and conditions was negotiated and ratified.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Williams, chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: \u201cWe accepted the principle of a voluntary exit scheme for police officers on the basis that no compulsory severance scheme would be introduced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a matter for chief constables whether they want to offer such a scheme and it\u2019s a matter for individual officers whether they would wish to apply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ACPO guidance for forces states, a consultation process with the Police Federation and Superintendents\u2019 Association \u201cas appropriate\u201d should be commenced prior to publicising the beginning of the scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation must include any selection or de-selection criterion based on which officers will be eligible to apply<\/p>\n<p>The chief officer guidance adds voluntary redundancy \u201cshould not be used as a substitute for Unsatisfactory Performance Procedures (UPP) or conduct processes\u201d by forces.<\/p>\n<p>A constable with 11 years\u2019 service, aged 37, earning \u00a336,000 would receive a compensation payment of 11 months\u2019 salary, so \u00a333,000. A constable with 26 years\u2019 service aged 47, earning the same amount would receive a compensation payment of 21 months\u2019 salary, so \u00a363,000.
