A MAN man who sexually assaulted an Essex Police officer and spat at two others has been sentenced today and ordered to pay just \u00a32,300 in compensation.<\/p>\n
Essex Police Federation Chairman Steve Taylor has condemned the sentencing which he says is a missed opportunity for the courts to send strong signals that this behaviour is not acceptable.<\/p>\n
He said: \u201cLike every other member of society, officers do not expect to be sexually assaulted when trying to do their job.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe justice system has missed an opportunity to send a strong signal to would-be sexual criminals that it is no way acceptable.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat support do officers feel from a system that doesn\u2019t send such offenders to prison?<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can have all the legislation in the world aimed at protecting the protectors but what\u2019s the point if the full weight of the courts are not felt by those intent on committing such disgusting crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n
