{"id":96269,"date":"2019-11-29T16:33:37","date_gmt":"2019-11-29T16:33:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=96269"},"modified":"2019-11-29T16:33:37","modified_gmt":"2019-11-29T16:33:37","slug":"a-royal-commission-into-policing-is-long-overdue-says-federation-chair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/essexfedfocus.co.uk\/?p=96269","title":{"rendered":"A Royal Commission into policing is long overdue, says Federation Chair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ESSEX Police Federation is backing calls for a Royal Commission into policing.<\/p>\n<p>The last police review took place in 1962 although earlier this year MPs discussed whether a fresh commission was needed to investigate how policing is run and funded.<\/p>\n<p>Now PFEW Chairman John Apter has reopened the debate by calling for an end to the \u2018postcode lottery\u2019 of policing funding which can see some forces better resourced than others.<\/p>\n<p>Essex Police Federation Chairman Steve Taylor said a new commission was \u2018long overdue.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnless you\u2019re actually going to have a bona fide Royal Commission, you always run the risk of insignificance, you always run the risk of the reaction being \u2018that\u2019s very interesting, let\u2019s file it under \u2018A. N. Other Day\u2019,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, if you want it to have any meaning and to have the value that it needs to have, my view is only the Royal Commission guarantees that. Why would you settle for anything less?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s keep pushing for a Royal Commission.
