QPMs for two Essex officers

TWO Essex officers have been recognised for their distinguished services to policing.

Outgoing Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh and Jan Bloomfield, a former Youth and Anti-Social Behaviour Sergeant, have both been awarded a QPM (Queen’s Police Medal) as part of Her Majesty’s 2018 Birthday Honours.

CC Kavanagh started his career in policing with the Met in 1985.

“I am honoured and humbled to learn of the award – policing is the ultimate team game and in 33 years of service I’ve been inspired and supported by every team I’ve worked with,” he said.

“I also can’t thank my ‘home’ team enough and my family’s love and patience has sustained me in tricky times.”

Former Sergeant Jan has dedicated 30 years to policing and now works with the force as a Children and Young People and Anti-Social Manager.

“I got home last week, and my daughter told me she’d signed for ‘some letter’. As we read it I said it must be a wind up!

“The award means a lot to me, but it highlights the areas of policing that I’m so passionate about and for that I’m really happy.
“I couldn’t ask for a better ending to my retirement as a police officer.”

Both officers will receive their medals at a dedication ceremony later this year.
